If you are like me, you’ve experienced panic when you can’t find your phone. Your first thoughts are, “where could I have left it?”, “did someone steal it?!”, “what if someone gains access to all my accounts?!!”, “oh my gosh, all my accounts are auto-login!” I’m sure you know the feeling. And then also, the relief if/when you find it.

Because of how detrimental the data on your phone could be to your personal security (and that of your money and identification), this tech tip is focused on helping you set up your phone so that you are prepared to remotely wipe all your data if it gets stolen. This article explains some things you need to do beforehand to prepare for this scenario (that we all hope never happens – but will be happy we did if it ever does).

For Android phones, this article describes how to set up your Android phone and this video tells you how to remotely access your phone (see where it’s located on a map) and then wipe all your data if it’s truly stolen.

For iPhones, this article describes how to set up your iPhone and this video tells you how to remotely track your phone and how to use iCloud to wipe your data off your iPhone.
