Scanner System 2.0 Students Using Scanner System 2.0

The chapel scanners are something that every student, and some faculty/staff on OCU’s campus have been using for years without much of a second thought. That is, until a few weeks later when you realize attendance credit for the chapel services you have attended where not being recorded.

This December, Isaac Parker, who works on our software development team, created a new chapel attendance system. The new system has been rewritten from the ground up and now prevents accidental scanning of non-OCU ID’s.

When a student scan’s their OCU ID, the tablet shows their name ensuring they are properly signed in and in turn catches students ID’s that are not registered, also helping the security department. Administration is now also able to track what time a student scans out, this helps them to know if a student leaves early, and how early they did so.

From the new attendance tracker in SONIS, to the new Microsoft Surface’s that are being used, scanning into and out of chapel has been made a lot easier. Of course, like all systems there are still a few kinks here and there to be worked out, but all in all the new chapel scanners have been a huge success!
